Privacy Policy
What data Watt2Ride collects, why, and how you can control it.

Who we are
Watt2Ride is a personal project run by Alberto Reineri ("we", "us"). We currently operate without a registered company. For any question about this policy or how your data is handled, write to info@watt2ride.com.
What data we collect
Account data. When you create a Watt2Ride account, we collect your email address and a password. Your password is never stored as plain text: it's transformed into a one-way hash before being saved, so we cannot see or recover your actual password. We also record the date your account was created and the date you accepted this policy.
Content you add. If you save favorite charging points, submit a new charging point, or write a review, we store that content together with your account so it can be shown back to you — and, where relevant, to other users (for example, a review or a community-submitted point once approved).
Security data. To protect the service from abuse (for example, automated login attempts), we temporarily use your IP address to limit how many requests can be made in a short time window. This isn't kept as a persistent log tied to your identity — it's discarded automatically after a few minutes.
Contact form. If you write to us through the contact form, your name, email address, and message reach us by email. We don't store them in our database — they only exist in our inbox, like any email you'd send us directly.
Cookies
We use one strictly necessary cookie (session)
to keep you logged in after you sign in. It doesn't require
consent because the service can't work without it.
With your consent, we also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used — number of visitors, pages viewed, approximate location, device type. By default, analytics cookies are off: the banner shown on your first visit lets you accept or decline them, and you can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's site data for watt2ride.com.
Why we process your data
Account and content data: necessary to provide the service you signed up for. Security data: our legitimate interest in keeping the service available and free of abuse. Analytics: only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of external services to run Watt2Ride, each acting as a data processor on our behalf:
- Cloudflare — hosting, database, and infrastructure.
- Resend — sends verification, password reset, and contact form emails.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) — analytics, only if you consent to it.
These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area; where that happens, we rely on the safeguards they provide, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep your data
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account data; content you've contributed that remains useful to other users (for example, an approved charging point already on the map) may be kept in a form that no longer identifies you.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to or restrict how we use it. To exercise any of these rights, write to info@watt2ride.com. If you believe we haven't handled your data properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Watt2Ride evolves. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
